Berlin Geekette of the Week: Silvia Foglia

Meet Silvia Foglia, Country Manager at twago.

Interviewed by Shermin Voshmgir, Founder at Cinovu.

Silvia Foglia, Country Manager of Italy, has been with twago from the very beginning. In the Berlin start-up scene, she’s practically the face of twago. When she arrived in Berlin 2,5 years ago, her aim was to leap into the tech world. She wanted to work for an innovative company that would “help people do things in a new way without loosing the social aspect of technology.”

It’s not about being cool or hip

If you know Silvia, you will appreciate her playful approach to technology. She doesn’t care about being hip or cool. Her eyes will genuinely start to glow when she finds a new app that she likes. “Do you know eye.em?” she asks, as she enthusiastically turns her mobile phone towards me.

Going with the flow

“I go with the flow”, Silvia says. ”Just like Steve Jobs said in his Stanford speech. Life is about connecting the dots”. Her “flow” took her half way around Europe and through many jobs. She first started out studying Educational Science back in Italy while working as a social worker for challenged children. As much as Silvia loved that job, she had difficulties disconnecting in her private life from the emotional challenges of that job. She decided to specialize in Adult Education & Corporate Trainings instead.

Her Masters Program took her to Sweden. a country she instantly fell in love with. The long, cold and dark winters were exotic to her, so she decided to extend her stay and found a job in Tourism. Not only were the dark winters new to her, but she had never before worked in an office. Sitting behind a computer 8 hours (or more) a day was a completely new experience.

When something ends, another much better thing will come along

So in her next job - Silvia started working for an Online Market Research Company. This was her first step into the tech world, and she instantly fell in love. She was able to work with new innovative & cutting edge technologies that helped people manage their lives more efficiently. That same job took her to Barcelona, where she lived for a year, and then eventually, her private life brought her to Berlin where she now is the Country Manager of Italy at twago.

Berlin feels like home

Silvia likes the innovative vibes in Berlin. “It’s a city of never ending possibilities, in your job as well as well as in your spare time.”
